| Bruce Borowsky is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker, based in Boulder, Colorado. He is the Co-Founder of Boulder Digital Arts, a professional resource for filmmakers, web designers, photographers and interactive artists, begun in 2004 with his business partner Zach Daudert. Boulder Digital Arts (BDA) offers affordable classes and workshops, social & networking events, greenscreen studio facility, and more.
Bruce has worked at People Productions in Boulder since 2000 as a producer/director/cameraman, working on a multitude of corporate videos and documentaries. Before joining People Productions, Bruce produced “The Climbing Show,” a national television series for the Outdoor Channel, covering the world of rock climbing and mountaineering. For over five years, traveling around the world filming famous climbers and mountaineers, Bruce learned quickly how to troubleshoot and fix problems in the middle of nowhere. Bruce was introduced to climbing, and the concept of adventure filmmaking, while working for renowned photographer Galen Rowell in Berkeley in the late 1980’s, who mentored Bruce, and taught him the intricacies of successfully combining business with a creative passion. Bruce helped run Mountain Light Photography, and was Galen’s full-time assistant – including being with Galen in a hot-air balloon over Napa Valley when the big San Francisco earthquake occurred. Bruce received his Master’s degree in Video and Photography from San Francisco State University in 1989; he was part of the very unique (and short-lived) Inter-Arts Center program there, designed specifically for artists who were involved with multiple disciplines. He was very fortunate to have studied with such artists as Lynn Hershman, Christine Tamblyn, and Jack Welpott. Prior to that, he received his undergraduate degree in Photography from the University of South Florida, where he had the great fortune to study with experimental filmmaker Will Hindle. In the mid-80’s, Bruce was the Photographer for the City of Miami Beach. With a photo studio and darkroom right in City Hall, Bruce enjoyed being called to some random nightclub to take photos of the Mayor with Don Johnson or the Bee Gees. Bruce’s passions include sailing, tennis, traveling, and independent films. Despite having grown up in Miami Beach and going to school in San Francisco, it wasn’t until Colorado that Bruce decided to try sailing! In 2002, Bruce raced a 72-foot sailboat across the Atlantic Ocean as part of a crew sponsored by BG Group of England, and his boat – after racing more than 3,000 miles – won the race by 8 minutes! His video documentary about the race from Southampton, England to Boston, titled “18 days, 16 hours,” was screened at several film festivals including the Annapolis Film Festival, and won the Best Documentary award at the Route 66 Adventure & Travel Film Festival in Illinois. |
